Chardee MacDynasty - Volume III
Chew gives a recap of the CFB and NFL playoffs thus far, and a dynasty buy from each NFL team from Wildcard Weekend. To the game of games!
The third installment of Chardee MacDynasty is here! Hopefully playoff football from Thursday to Monday won you a surplus of Schrute Bucks and has you optimistic for your dynasty teams in 2025. So let’s recap this past weekend of football (CFB & NFL) and highlight a dynasty buy for each NFL team.
And if you find this even mildly enjoyable consider subscribing. Do it now, shake my hand!
College Football Semi-Final
The CFB semi-final saw Notre Dame edging out Penn State 27-24 and Ohio State taking care of Texas 28-14. So we are set up for a CFB championship between Notre Dame and Ohio State, two very humble fanbases. What can we take away from the semi-final matchups from a dynasty perspective:
Notre Dame (27) v. Penn State (24)
The offense of the Fighting Irish normally wins on the ground but Riley Leonard nearly doubled Penn State’s Drew Allar’s passing yardage; however, the former did throw two interceptions to the latter’s one.
Notre Dame’s punishing defense did their best to slow down Penn State and despite giving up 200+ rushing yards and 3 rushing TDs, the Fighting Irish stuck it out.
After a taste of the CFB Playoff the trio of Drew Allar, Kaytron Allen, and Nicholas Singleton will be returning to Beaver Stadium in 2025.
Tyler Warren is an absolute weapon and should push for the first tight end off the board in dynasty rookie drafts.
Ohio State (28) v. Texas (14)
Will Howard proves to be a steady force at quarterback and should end up within the Top-5 quarterbacks drafted in the 2025 class. He profiles as at worst a steady backup option with the chance to step into a starting role given the right opportunity.
Quinshon Judkins and TreVeyon Henderson are the epitome of thunder and lightening, respectively. So for those that play in PPR formats look for Henderson to push as high as the RB-2 in the 2025 class (no shade to Judkins).
The Buckeyes had a lot of offensive options but Emeka Egbuka still produced well and is poised to comfortably be a Top-3 receiver in upcoming dynasty rookie drafts.
Ohio State’s defense giving up the fewest points per game was an uphill battle and Quinn Ewers did his best, throwing just shy of 300 passing yards and two TDs. Does he enter the draft or take a couple million to transfer? We will find out soon!
The two draft-eligible Texas weapons Isaiah Bond and Gunnar Helm has so-so games as Ewers spread the ball to nine different players. But that should not have a tremendous impact on the duos draft capital.
NFL Wildcard Weekend
The NFL playoffs started with the opposite of a bang, with most of the games essentially over before they began. Hopefully the Divisional Round offers more excitement with the following matchups: HOU v KC, WAS v DET, LAR v PHI, and BAL v BUF. I have also included a dynasty buy from each team (not exclusively buy low) and a trade to acquire each player.
*Trades sourced from Dynasty Daddy (superflex formats).
Chargers (12) v. Texans (32)
This was a forgettable one for Justin Herbert, and of course Will Dissly, with Herbert throwing a whopping four interceptions and a sub-50% completion percentage. The lone bright spot is a guy named Ladd McConkey, who almost dropped a 40-burger of fantasy points on nearly 200 receiving yards.
Thanks to Herbert’s many interceptions, C.J. Stroud & Company just needed to capitalize on scoring opportunities and churn the game clock. Nico Collins was his usual self with 100+ receiving yards and a TD, but the bigger surprise was Joe Mixon. After a booming start to the season Mixon started to fizzle but thanks to game script he got a chance to churn the clock and grind out yards.
Dynasty Buys: Justin Herbert & Joe Mixon
Justin Herbert + Terry McLaurin ←→ Bryce Young + ‘25 3rd rd pick + ‘26 1st rd pick + ‘26 2nd rd pick + ‘26 2nd rd pick
Joe Mixon ←→ Roschon Johnson + ‘25 3.09 pick + ‘25 4.10
Steelers (14) v. Ravens (28)
Russell Wilson did what he could, putting up two TD’s versus zero INT’s, but the Steelers’ offense simply couldn’t get much going. There will be much discussion regarding the quarterback in Pittsburgh as defense has rarely (if ever) been the issue. And while he is likely to be retained, the future of Justin Fields for fantasy is an intriguing one.
The Ravens are poised to make a deep playoff run with the one-two punch of Lamar Jackson and Derrick Henry. The duo combined for 267 rushing yards which helped Baltimore nearly double Pittsburgh’s time of possession. But one name that has stepped up and, finally, stayed healthy is Rashod Bateman who contributed a TD in the winning effort.
Dynasty Buys: Justin Fields & Rashod Bateman
Justin Fields ←→ ‘25 2.12 pick
Rashod Bateman + ‘25 3.10 pick ←→ ‘25 2.07 pick
Broncos (7) v. Bills (31)
The Broncos were simply outmatched against the Bills this weekend. Bo Nix did what he could not turning the ball over and even leading the Broncos in rushing yards, but to no avail. The Bills more than doubled the Broncos in time of possession and total offensive yards. Denver should hold their head high heading into the offseason, knowing they have their quarterback of the future.
Buffalo would not be denied, winning in all phases and stifling the Broncos. Josh Allen had an efficient and productive day, spreading the ball around well. But the player I’m most interested in is James Cook who has seen his role grow more and more in this explosive offense. We all know Allen is bound to take away some ground work and TD’s but Cook is an intriguing back to acquire in dynasty.
Dynasty Buys: Bo Nix & James Cook
Bo Nix + ‘25 2.03 ←→ Kenneth Walker + ‘25 1.10 pick
James Cook ←→ ‘25 2.07 pick + ‘25 2.10 pick
Packers (10) v. Eagles (22)
I’m no mathematician but based on pythagorean theorem it is infinitely more difficult to win a football game when you turn the ball over four times. Josh Jacobs did what he could but the Packers’ turnovers coupled with injuries became too much for Green Bay to overcome. One of those injuries was Jayden Reed who had a so-so end to his 2024 season. Reed is a bit of an enigma, with dynasty managers looking for growth in his sophomore season only to be met with up-and-down production and gadget-player-type usage. I am still a believer, albeit at the right price.
Jalen Hurts was not asked to do too much, with Saquon Barkley running the air out of the ball to the tune of 25 rush attempts. The Eagles won this game by playing mistake-free football and capitalizing on the Packers’ four turnovers. While A.J. Brown was reading on the sideline, Dallas Goedert nabbed one of Hurts’ two passing TD’s. Goedert serves as an above average dynasty tight end in a dynamic offense, what more could you ask for?
Dynasty Buys: Jayden Reed & Dallas Goedert
Jayden Reed ←→ Chris Godwin
Dallad Goedert + ‘25 2.11 pick ←→ ‘25 2.09 pick + ‘25 3.05 pick
Commanders (23) v. Buccaneers (20)
The legend grows as Jayden Daniels lifted the Commanders to their first playoff win since 2005. Daniels gave fans and dynasty managers a scare when he got rag-dolled by a safety early on but the quarterback remained composed and finished the game with zero turnovers. The ground game was largely stifled, but the Commanders won through the air with receiving TD’s by Terry McLaurin and Dyami Brown. While he is primarily an outside deep threat, Brown has grown into a solid receiver and an intriguing, cheap dynasty buy as he enters free agency.
No one play decides any game; however, the Baker Mayfield fumble in the fourth quarter was undoubtedly the turning point. Mayfield only threw the ball 18 times and was efficient, with Mike Evans leading the way through the air and Bucky Irving on the ground. After losing Chris Godwin early in the season, rookie Jalen McMillan stepped up to fill some of that void. As Godwin enters free agency, McMillan is a name to monitor in dynasty if the former is not resigned.
Dynasty Buys: Dyami Brown & Jalen McMillan
Dyami Brown + ‘25 4th rd pick ←→ Ameer Abdullah
Jalen McMillan + Rashee Rice ←→ Rome Odunze + ‘25 4.06 pick + ‘25 4.07 pick
Vikings (9) v. Rams (27)
I think Sam Darnold is seeing ghosts again after being sacked nine times and committing two turnovers. There is no doubt he is still the top free agent quarterback but J.J. McCarthy on a cheaper deal is looking more and more attractive for Minnesota. My dynasty buy for the Vikings is with McCarthy in mind and that is T.J. Hockenson. Hock missed the first half of the season recovering from an ACL tear and the prospect of being a rookie quarterback’s safety blanket is appealing for dynasty.
The Rams overwhelmed the Vikings, plain and simple, and that was led by the defense. So the Rams’ offense did not need to do too much, but Matt Stafford and Kyren Williams combined for two of the three TD’s. Cooper Kupp made one big catch and Puka Nacua led the team in targets but Williams is my dynasty buy. Williams was an enigma entering the season as there was concern as to whether or not he would maintain the lead role with Blake Corum entering the fold. Needless to say, Williams is THE guy in LA.
Dynasty Buys: Jordan Addison & Kyren Williams
Jordan Addison + ‘25 1.01 pick + Deshaun Watson ←→ C.J. Stroud + ‘25 1.12 pick + ‘25 3.08 pick
Kyren Williams + ‘25 1.06 pick ←→ David Montgomery + Tank Bigsby + ‘25 1.05 pick
